Analog Mixed-Signal Circuit Design Engineer

As a Ferric Design Engineer, you contribute to building the most advanced cutting edge integrated voltage regulators, leveraging Ferric’s industry-leading on-chip inductor technology. These products have applications ranging from high-power modern SoCs to ultra-low power Mobile platforms including wearable devices.

Primary Responsibilities

  • Design analog and mixed-signal circuits meeting architectural requirements and technical specifications in various CMOS nodescad

  • Actively contribute to the architectural definition of the design and chip integration and work with business and application team to define specifications for upcoming IC's

  • Research and investigate new circuit techniques to help improve Ferric IC's

  • Perform analysis, design and verification simulations to ensure building blocks meet specifications at the schematic level and after post-layout extraction

  • Document assigned blocks, and hold design review meetings and participate in the reviews 

  • Work cross-functionally with Characterization, Test, and Application Engineers to verify, characterize and debug owned circuit blocks

Minimum Qualifications

  • PhD or MSEE with 2+ years of experience in full-custom CMOS design

  • Design skills in areas such as bandgaps, ADC's/DAC's, PLL's, DLL's, LDO's, temperature sensors, switched-capacitor circuits, op-amps, comparators, and biasing circuits.

  • CAD Software: Cadence Virtuoso Schematic and Layout, Spectre, APS, Calibre DRC/LVS/PEX, CppSim

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience designing high switching frequency integrated voltage regulators in standard CMOS technologies

  • Experience designing analog and mixed-signal circuits in standard CMOS technologies with an emphasis on low-power consumption

  • Proven track record for bringing mixed-signal designs into high volume production

  • Deep understanding of process and device physics concepts

  • Familiarity with mixed signal verification methodologies

  • Ability to layout critical analog and mixed-signal circuits

  • Experience with backend verification tools including EMIR, static/dynamic MOSFET voltage checks, etc

  • Experience with Monte Carlo analysis

  • Languages: Verilog, Verilog-AMS, Python, Perl, Tcl, Cadence Skill, MATLAB

IC Validation Test Engineer

Ferric is a technology startup based in New York City that is pioneering an entirely new approach to power delivery for Integrated Circuits and Electronic Assemblies. This approach leverages Ferric’s integration of thin-film magnetic inductors with CMOS technology to enable a significant improvement in the integration density and efficiency of voltage regulators (VRs) compared with current commercially available technologies.

As a Ferric IC Validation Test Engineer, you will gain exposure to the full product-life of Ferric’s ICs by working with a diverse cross-functional team including IC designers, test & application engineers, engineering vendors, the fab, and our customers.  Your primary responsibilities will be validation testing and characterizing Ferric’s mixed-signal ICs, including creating test plans, performing bench-level tests, and developing/maintaining a suite of automation scripts for IC performance characterization. Additional responsibilities will include supporting IC product qualification and production testing by our engineering vendors as ICs are productized.  The position requires a strong background in mixed-signal IC design and test, experience with standard circuit test lab equipment, instrument automation/programming, and data-analysis skills.  Applicants should be self-motivating and possess excellent problem-solving and analytical skills, as well as excellent oral and written communication skills with the ability to work well and contribute on a team.

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Work with IC design and test teams to create and review test plans and test cases, including providing recommendations for DFT & TFQ, test & debug visibility, etc

  • Bench-level validation, characterization, and debug of full ICs and IC sub-systems

  • Development and execution of Python scripts to automate the characterization and data acquisition of key DC-DC power-converter metrics

  • Circuit and PCB design (and occasional assembly) of bench-level IC test boards and test fixtures

  • Support Field Applications Engineering team with bench test/demo setups and customer support items

  • Support Product Engineering team in developing production/ATE test programs based on validation testing

Desired Skills and Experience:

  • Education: Bachelor’s or Master’s Degree in EE

  • Industry Experience: 0-5 years

  • Knowledge of DC-DC power-converters/regulators (Buck, Boost, LDO, etc)

  • Programming Languages: Python, Verilog

  • Software: Cadence Virtuoso Suite, PCB design tools, and Linux & Windows operating systems

  • Education:  Master’s Degree in EE

IC Reliability Engineer

As a Ferric IC Reliability Engineer, you will gain exposure to the full product life of Ferric’s ICs by working with a diverse cross-functional team including IC designers, test & application engineers, engineering vendors, the fab, and our customers.  Your primary responsibilities will be taking full ownership of reviewing designs for reliability, planning for reliability testing, developing the reliability qualification plan, developing the required H/W and S/W, and executing the plans. In addition, you will be responsible for generating internal and external reports and performing failure and root cause analyses. 

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Define reliability requirements and develop reliability qualification plans

  • Manage the design and implementation of qualification hard- and software

  • Run the internal qualification tests in our lab and manage qualification tests with external partners

  • Participate and contribute in design reviews, DFMEA, etc. through the entire product development life cycle; assess and communicate reliability risk to stakeholders.

  • Design and develop reliability monitoring and long-term reliability testing

  • Design and develop custom test fixtures to conduct various mechanical and electric testing requirements for our products

  • Perform failure analysis to understand the root cause and drive resolution of failures occurring during product development and during the entire product life cycle

  • Plan and execute Electromigration testing

  • Development and execution of Python scripts to automate the characterization and data acquisition of key DC-DC power-converter metrics

  • Circuit and PCB design (and occasional assembly) of bench-level IC test boards

  • Support the Field Applications Engineering team with bench test/demo setups and customer support items

  • Drive engineering vendors for IC product qualification, including coordination of bench- & wafer-level tests, and yield improvement

  • Interface with customers to review IC reliability data and procedures

  • Review suppliers' processes and products for conformance to reliability and quality standard

  • Audit suppliers as needed

Desired Skills and Experience:

  • Education:  Bachelor’s or Master’s Degree in EE

  • Industry and reliability experience:  3-10 years

  • Strong engineering fundamentals and ability to apply knowledge to drive reliability testing

  • Sound mathematical and statistical background

  • Strong understanding of mechanical, electrical, and thermal failure modes in the semiconductor material

Manager, Quality and Reliability

Position Summary and Responsibilities:

Responsible for implementation of the policies and procedures to ensure adherence to the quality assurance system and oversight of a team that promotes customer satisfaction. Champions ISO certification, continuous improvement efforts and defect reduction initiatives to establish an effective quality assurance program. Initiates and implements quality improvement activities as appropriate during bring up and to enhance the performance of the company’s production. Educate and train employees as to their impact in the quality management system.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities include the following:

• Lead ISO certification activities.

• Plan and lead device reliability planning and testing.

• Serves as the primary quality assurance resource for problem identification, resolution, and continuous improvement.

• Supports concurrent engineering efforts by participating in design development projects representing quality assurance and the customer.

• Performs root-cause analysis and other problem-solving activities regarding nonconformance of products and processes to identify effective corrective actions and process improvements.

• Oversee calibration program.

• Communicates quality issues, trends and losses to all relevant organizational departments.

• Interfaces with supplier and customer quality representatives concerning problems with quality control and assure that effective corrective action is implemented.

• Responsible for compliance including leading internal and external quality audit functions.

• Reviews technical publications, articles, regulatory standards, trends and abstracts to stay abreast of issues in the quality control industry.

• Approves and submits proposals and budgets considered feasible to management for consideration and allocation of funds.

• Serves as a member of senior management team providing guidance and leadership to management including formulation or changes to policies.

• Establishes operational objectives and directs subordinates to achieve assignments by providing leadership, assigning tasks and checking work at appropriate intervals to determine status of assigned projects and ensure goals are met within organization goals of budget, time requirements and high level of quality.
